What sets grinders apart
Four things to look at before you choose.
Teeth
Diamond-shaped teeth cut rather than crush. That gives a more even grind – and an even grind burns more evenly.
Materiaali
Metal and aluminium are durable and keep the teeth sharp for longer. Hemp plastic is light, affordable and bio-based.
Koko
The diameter decides how much fits. 40–45 mm is enough for one roll at a time, 60 mm and up for larger amounts.
Pollen chamber
In a 4-piece grinder a mesh sifts the finest material, pollen or kief, into its own chamber at the bottom.

Three steps to an even grind

Fill around the edge
Place the contents between the teeth, not in the middle where the magnet or pin sits. Break up larger pieces first.

Turn a few times
Put the lid on and twist back and forth until it no longer resists. Usually 5–10 turns is enough.

Tap and empty
Tap the lid lightly so everything falls down. Then pour it onto a rolling tray so nothing ends up on the table.

A grinder, or herb grinder, is a small mill with teeth that grinds herbs evenly. You fill it, turn the lid a few times and get an even grind that is easy to roll or fill into a cone.
What is a grinder used for?
For grinding herbs before rolling, for a vaporizer or a pipe. Evenly ground material burns more evenly and is easier to roll than breaking it up by hand.
Should I choose a 2-piece or 4-piece grinder?
A 2-piece grinder is enough for most people and easy to clean. A 4-piece grinds more evenly, has its own basket for the ground material and a pollen chamber at the bottom. See the comparison.
What is kief?
Kief, or pollen, is the finest material that is sifted through the mesh in a 4-piece grinder and collects in the chamber at the bottom.
How do I clean my grinder?
Brush out the teeth and mesh regularly with a dry brush. Metal grinders can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol for a while, rinsed and left to dry completely before use. Hemp plastic grinders are best cleaned dry with a brush.
What is a rolling tray?
