How to choose the right rolling paper

Almost all our papers are King Size Slim, and most come with filter tips in the booklet. The differences are in material, thickness and bleaching – here is how to think about it.

Size

King Size Slim (approx. 110 × 44 mm) is the most common size and the one we stock most of. Slim means a narrower paper that burns more slowly than wider versions.

Material

Hemp gives a neutral taste and is the most popular choice. Rice paper is thin and burns evenly with almost no aftertaste. Our other papers are made from other plant or wood fibres.

Thickness

Ultra-thin papers like RAW Black, RAW Ethereal and OCB Premium give you the least paper and the most flavour from what is inside – but they take a little more practice to roll.

Bleaching

Brown papers are unbleached. White papers are bleached or naturally light, like rice paper. The difference in taste is small, so choose whichever you prefer.

Filter tips

Papers marked Connoisseur or + filter have tips in the same booklet. Want a cooler draw? Swap the tip for an activated carbon filter.

How to roll in three steps

Works with any paper – ultra-thin ones just need slightly lighter fingers

Prepare

Grind evenly with a grinder and fold the filter tip into a small zigzag or spiral. An even grind gives an even burn.

Fill and shape

Place the tip at one end of the paper with the glue strip facing up and towards you. Spread the contents evenly and shape them between your fingers into a cylinder.

03

Roll and seal

Tuck the short side of the paper under the contents, roll upwards and lightly moisten the glue strip. Pack the end with a pen and twist it closed.

The questions we get asked most about rolling papers.

Which rolling papers are best?

It depends on what you want. RAW Organic Hemp and OCB Organic Hemp are our best sellers – unbleached hemp papers with a neutral taste that are easy to roll. If you want to taste as little paper as possible, go for an ultra-thin paper like RAW Black or RAW Ethereal.

All papers marked Connoisseur or + filter have filter tips in the same booklet. Choose With filter tips in the comparison to see them all at once.

Both are established brands with unbleached hemp papers in their range. OCB comes from France and also makes the ultra-thin Premium. RAW is made in Spain and is known for its watermark that helps the paper burn evenly, and for the extra-thin Black and Ethereal series.

King Size refers to the length, approx. 110 mm. Slim means the paper is narrower, around 44 mm. Connoisseur means filter tips are included in the same booklet.

Unbleached paper is brown because it has not been bleached. The difference in taste is small, so it is mostly down to preference. Most of our papers are unbleached.

An ultra-thin paper weighs less per sheet, so you get less paper and more flavour from what is inside. It burns slowly but is a little trickier to roll – start with a regular paper if you are new to rolling.
