About RAW
The man behind RAW
RAW was founded by Josh Kesselman. He opened his first shop in the early 90s, started the company HBI a few years later and has worked with rolling papers his whole adult life. The first RAW papers came out in 2005.
The idea was a paper that is not bleached and contains no dyes or other additives. That is why the papers are light brown instead of white.
The papers are made in the area around Alcoy in Spain, where cigarette paper has been produced since the 1700s. The fibres are processed less than in ordinary white papers, the gum is water based and the papers are vegan.
Over the years the range has grown. Classic is the original, Organic Hemp is made from organically grown hemp, Black is extra thin and Ethereal is the thinnest paper RAW has made so far.

RAW started with a single unbleached paper and has since built one of the broadest ranges of rolling accessories on the market. Most of it follows the same idea as the papers, with natural materials and no unnecessary additives.

What is the difference between Classic, Organic Hemp, Black and Ethereal?
Classic is RAW’s original paper. Organic Hemp is made from organically grown hemp. Black is extra thin and Ethereal is the thinnest paper RAW has made. All four are unbleached.
What does Connoisseur mean?
It means the filter tips come in the same booklet as the papers, so you get both papers and tips in one pack.
What size are the papers?
The RAW papers we stock are King Size Slim, about 110 × 44 mm. Our cones are 110 mm long and have a filter at the end.
Why are RAW papers brown?
They are unbleached. The fibres keep their natural colour, and RAW adds no dyes.
Do you have filters for the papers without filter?
Yes. Under Activated carbon filters you will find slim filters that fit King Size Slim papers.
Who is behind RAW?
Josh Kesselman, who started the company HBI and launched the first RAW papers in 2005.
Is RAW the same company as Raw Hemp?
No. RAW is a brand from the American company HBI. Raw Hemp is an independent shop that sells RAW products along with other brands.
