Cannafest & Czechia’s Legalisation – A Weekend Showing Where Europe Is Heading
This year’s Cannafest in Prague turned out to be one of our most rewarding trips so far. The event, now in its 15th year, has grown into one of Europe’s key gathering points for the cannabis industry. At the same time, Czechia is preparing for a legalisation reform taking effect on 1 January 2026 – a change that further strengthens the country’s position as a hub for both hemp and THC-focused production.
Here we share more about our weekend in Prague and how the upcoming law will shape the landscape going forward.
Cannafest 2025: A bigger and more diverse expo than ever before
Cannafest is Europe’s third-largest cannabis and hemp expo, after Spannabis and Mary Jane Berlin. The event usually draws around 20–30,000 visitors and attracts a uniquely mixed crowd: families, enthusiasts, growers, seniors, business owners, and curious consumers from all over Europe.
Unlike many niche expos, Cannafest covers the whole spectrum. Here you’ll find:
- Growing equipment: LED lights, HPS lamps, climate control, tents, substrates, and automated systems.
- Seed banks: Established European breeders as well as smaller independent ones working on new crosses and terpene-focused phenotypes.
- THC and CBD products: Flowers, extracts, hash, terpenes, and various forms of processing.
- Technology and innovation: Vaporizers, dabbing devices, new heating methods, measurement tools, lab equipment, and testing kits.
- Accessories: Papers, filters, grinders, glassware, pipes, and storage.

Prague as Europe’s New Centre for Cultivation and Production
After Italy tightened its regulations on trimmed flowers, many producers shifted parts of their operations to Czechia. Prague has quickly become a magnet for:
- growers looking for a more stable regulatory environment
- seed banks seeking a market with a more open attitude
- laboratories investing in testing, quality control, and extraction methods
- distributors focusing on Central Europe
The result is clear: more serious actors, more innovation, and a broader range of products — both in THC and CBD, even though we only sell legal CBD products ourselves.
Czechia’s Legalisation in 2026: What Will Change
On 1 January 2026, Czechia will introduce a new framework that makes the country one of the most progressive in Europe. Under the new rules, adults will be allowed to:
- grow up to three plants at home
- keep up to 100 grams of dried flower in their residence
- carry 25 grams in public
It’s not a full retail or coffeeshop system, but it’s a significant move toward normalisation and clearer guidelines for personal use.
